These A-list owned hotels have serious star quality

While popularity can shield you from many things (such as waiting in line for the latest designer handbag and doing your own laundry, to mention a few), being an A-lister does not ensure a fully stress-free existence.

Celebrities, whether exhausted from a gruelling filming schedule, a press tour, or avoiding paparazzi, require vacations as well. With large cash accounts at their disposal, many of them are electing to buy and design their own hotel vacations rather than simply checking into one.

There are much more celebrity hotel owners than you may believe, whether it’s a vanity acquisition, a genuine investment, or a long-term passion project.

From Liz Hurley’s central London swanky house to Richard Gere’s New England quaint inn, to Bono’s Dublin hideaway and Mick Jagger’s luxury rental, we expose the hotels where an A-list meeting is a given.

Stargroves Villa, Mustique

Owned by: Mick Jagger

Rolling Stones luxury – with a hefty price tag, of course (Picture: Stargroves)

One of Mick Jagger’s luxury houses on the West Indian island of Mustique is available for rent – for a fee.

Stargroves Villa is a 1930s house with a seaside location with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. It is divided into seven different pavilions joined by a high walkway.

The Rolling Stones frontman’s tropical hideaway beds up to ten people and includes all the amenities that any self-respecting high roller need, including a swimming pool, workout centre, sundeck, and a team of resident employees, including a butler and chef, to attend to every desire.

You may think you have Jagger’s moves, but at up to £3,500 per night during high season, you’ll need a rock star-sized bank balance to match in order to afford a stay here.

The Bedford Post Inn, New York

Owned by: Richard Gere

What this modest rural inn lacks in size, it makes up for in Hollywood credentials, nestled on 14 acres of farmland in the peaceful hamlet of Bedford, New York. Despite its humble appearance, this rural inn is owned by none other than Pretty Woman actor Richard Gere.

Having purchased the eight-room inn with a business partner in 2007, the movie legend has gone on to develop The Bedford Post Inn into a premium healing retreat.

The yoga-obsessed actor has also set up a yoga school, which provides daily lessons as well as vacations and workshops.

The Clarence Hotel, Dublin

Owned by: Bono

U2 could have a lovely stay here (Picture: Clarence Hotel)

The Clarence Hotel, purchased by Bono and other members of U2 in 1992, was a pioneer in the redevelopment of Dublin’s city centre. And, 30 years later, the 49-room boutique hotel is still one of the coolest in Dublin.

The 1930s ambience and opulent rooms (think thick velvet draperies and custom-designed furnishings) are fantastic, but it’s the abundance of eating and drinking venues that truly make the property stand out.

From all-day dining at Cleaver East to quiet pints at The Stout Bar to a famous cocktail menu at The Curious Mister, there’s something for everyone (formerly the Octagon Bar).

Not only is this a terrific place for a nightcap, but it’s also where the band used to hang out before taking over the hotel.

No. 11 Cadogan Gardens, London

Owned by: Elizabeth Hurley

The lap of luxury (Picture: No 11 Cadogan Gardens)

It’s no surprise that model-turned-actress Elizabeth Hurley’s haute hotel is located right off Sloane Street in the heart of Chelsea.

Each of the Cadogan’s 54 rooms (including 19 suites) has been adorned in the luxury befitting her The Royals alter-ego, Queen Helena Henstridge.

Liz took over the hotel in 2016 and completely refurbished it after it was built by Lord Chelsea in the late 1800s.

There’s even a suite package that includes a bottle of bubbly and luxury transportation, allowing ordinary mortals to live like royalty for an evening or two.

The Greenwich Hotel, New York

Owned by: Robert De Niro

Though he is most known for his work on the big screen, Goodfellas star Robert De Niro is also a wealthy hotelier.

Despite co-founding the famed Nobu Hospitality Group (a hospitality empire that includes many eateries and hotels across the world), the Oscar winner began his hotel career at the Greenwich Hotel.

The boutique hotel, located in the cradle of the native New Yorker, Greenwich Village, has 88 individually furnished luxury rooms.

The Japanese Shibui Spa, which is located in a restored 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse, is an impressive addition. A shiatsu room, traditional bathing area, and treatment room for facials and massages are also available.
