The new episodes in Stranger Things season 4, which are set to drop on Netflix next month, ‘cost $30million to make each’, it has been reported.
The upcoming new season will see audiences around the world reunited with fan-favourite characters, from Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) to Steve (Joe Keery) and Hopper (David Harbour).
They will face a new enemy that threatens everything they hold dear, with the recently-released trailer sparking a frenzy when it was released on the internet, teasing a first look at the gruesome villain known as Vecna.
The visual effects in the series will undoubtedly continue to amaze fans as they discover the latest developments in the story, so it may not come as a surprise that each episode would come with a hefty price tag.
A report published by The Wall Street Journal claimed that the fourth season of Stranger Things ‘has a per-episode cost’ of $30m (£23m), according to sources close to Netflix.
With nine new episodes coming out in a month, that would mean that the entire season cost approximately $270m (£209m).
The report alleged that a studio executive who works on several shows with Netflix said that the streaming giant is trying to cut costs, with the company supposedly hoping in some instances to decrease the budgets on new programmes by 25%, when licensing shows from other studios and production companies.
Excitement is on the rise for season four of Stranger Things, with eagle-eyed fans recently realising that a teaser had subtly confirmed the return of a certain character.
Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike, emphasised that the new episodes are going to get ‘darker’, comparing the tale to the Harry Potter films.
With Harry Potter, as those movies went on, the darker they went,’ the 19-year-old actor told Polygon.
‘And that’s kind of where we’re at now. It’s a perfect progression in my opinion.’
Several fans expressed concern over the fate of Max (Sadie Sink), after the trailer showed her visiting the grave of her late brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery) and levitating above the ground.
Meanwhile, some also had an intriguing theory about the new villain Vecna, hypothesising that the antagonist might actually be a character we’ve seen before.
