BTS docuseries and recorded concert to launch on Disney streaming services giving fans a peak into their ‘daily lives and thoughts’ as they prepare for their ‘second chapter’

In an epic collaboration, K-pop icons BTS are joining forces with Disney to create three titles across Disney’s streaming services, including two exclusive projects featuring the whole group.

The immensely popular band, featuring seven members – Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook – have announced a global content collaboration between Disney and South Korea’s entertainment lifestyle platform company HYBE.

Debuting next year, the deal will see a documentary series and concert featuring BTS brought to streaming services, giving fans an insight into music and footage of the group over the last nine years.

BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star will showcase ‘the daily lives, thoughts and plans’ of the group’s members ‘as they prepare for their second chapter,’ following the news last month that the band were taking a break to focus on solo projects.

Fans will also get to see a recording of a stadium concert in Los Angeles in November 2021, which was their first live concert after the pandemic.

The soon-to-be-released 4K concert film, titled BTS: Permission To Dance On Stage – LA, will include the band performing their Billboard hit songs Butter and Permission to Dance.

BTS member V will also star in a reality show, titled In the Soop: Friendcation, alongside Parasite movie actor Woo-shik Choi and rapper Peakboy.

The program will follow five celebrities, including actor Hyung-sik Park and Itaewon Class’ Seo-jun Park, venturing on a surprise trip.

In a video message announcing the news, the band revealed the documentary series will ‘show a more up close and personal side’, taking fans on ‘a journey of how [they] have grown of the past years and a story of [their] music.’

‘We are thrilled to be collaborating with HYBE to showcase their original content created with powerful artist IP on our global streaming services including Disney+,’ said Jessica Kam-Engle, APAC Head of Content at The Walt Disney Company.

‘This collaboration represents our creative ambition – to work with iconic content creators and top stars in Asia Pacific so their talent can be enjoyed by mainstream audiences in multiple ways. We believe these new titles will captivate consumers worldwide and look forward to introducing more music content on our service.’

‘This will be the start of a long-term collaboration, where we present worldwide audiences a wide range of HYBE content for fans who love our music and artists,’ added Park Ji-won, CEO of HYBE. ‘The Walt Disney Company has a long history of franchise building and promoting musical artists, with its unparalleled brands and platforms.’

The announcement comes after the K-pop superstars, who took the Grammy Awards by storm in April, revealed that they are taking their first break apart in nine years together to focus on solo projects.

‘We promise we will return someday,’ the band vowed.

Reflecting on their desire to grow individually, RM said in the clip announcing the hiatus: ‘I always thought that BTS was different from other groups, but the problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don’t give you time to mature.

‘You have to keep producing music and keep doing something.’

The group also shared it had been a difficult decision to make to take a break as they felt like they were letting down their fans.

‘We can’t help but think of our fans no matter what, we want to be the kind of artists that are remembered by our fans. I think now we’re starting to think about what kind of artists we each want to be remembered by our fans,’ explained Jimin.

‘I think that’s why we’re going through a rough patch right now, we’re trying to find our identity and that’s an exhausting and long process.’
