It’s that time of the year again. You walk home from work through the cold and snow, and all you can think of is how you’ll take off your coat, light a fire in your trusty old wood burner, and enjoy a lovely movie alongside a cup of hot tea.

To help make your life a little easier for you this winter season, we’ve composed a list of the top classic movies that are perfect for enjoying during cold evenings.

Whether you’ll be watching them for the first time or already know all the lines by heart, these classics will be a perfect way to recharge your mental batteries this winter.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Few movies ever get to be as legendary as 1939’s The Wizard of Oz. This never-ageing classic was groundbreaking upon its release. And it still holds up almost 80 years later.

Join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Toto in their adventure to take on the Wicked Witch of the West and follow the Yellow Brick Road to Emerald City.

It’s an adventure that is as exciting to watch the hundredth time as it is the first.

The Lion King (1994)

While the 2019 version of The Lion King this classic movie may be a little bit more palatable to modern children who are used to breathtaking graphics, the classic 1994 version still holds a special place in our hearts. And perhaps it’s just nostalgia speaking, but it is a much better movie than the new release, isn’t it?

Filled with classic songs, lovely hand-drawn animation, and legendary voice talent, this version of The Lion King is as good as cartoon movies get.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

If you’re into something a little bit more action-packed, then why not join Indiana Jones on his exciting adventures? The Raiders of the Lost Ark is a movie that truly has it all. The iconic opening is thought in film schools. And the ending is truly ground-breaking.

Once you’re done with it, it’s safe to bet you’ll cue up Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, followed closely by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The original trilogy is just that good. As for the fourth movie… We don’t talk about that one in polite company.

Some Like It Hot (1959)

Some Like It Hot is a tale of two male musicians in prohibition-era Chicago. The pair witnessed a mafia shooting and, after a quick change of wardrobe, decide to join an all-girl band to hide from a pack of blood-thirsty gangsters pursuing them.

Featuring such legends as Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon, Some Like It Hot is a fantastic flick that will have your sides splitting with laughter throughout its entire two-hour run time.

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

While this is a list of classic movies to enjoy in the winter, not a list of Christmas movies, it’s impossible not to mention It’s a Wonderful Life, which is the most iconic Christmas movie of all time (at least in the English-speaking world).

We can’t put our fingers on it why, but as soon as you see It’s a Wonderful Life on TV, your brain automatically enters Christmas mode. And there’s no antidote for it.

It’s an uplifting tale that succeeds in getting the true message of Christmas across to everyone who watches it.
