Sylvester Stallone is a superhero back from the dead as he battles new foes in epic Samaritan trailer

Sylvester Stallone has turned his hand to being a superhero who wants nothing to do with his past superhero ways in his new flick, Samaritan.

The new trailer for the Prime Video film has been released, and sees a young boy, Sam (Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton), saved by a mysterious man, who he believes is a superhero known as Samaritan (Sly).

The only problem is Samaritan vanished 25 years ago.

‘Kid, Samaritan is dead,’ Sly’s character tells Sam. ‘I pick up garbage for a living’.

‘Samaritan cleaned up the streets,’ Sam tells him.

Despite Sam’s best efforts to get Samaritan – or Joe – to return to his superhero ways, he’s having none of it, telling him: ‘Things fall apart when you stop caring. And I stopped caring a long time ago….For some people, it’s too late to change the damage they’ve done.’

But Sam’s not the only problem Joe encounters – enter Pilou Asbæk’s character Cyrus, who is on the hunt for the superhero and wants him dead.

It’s giving car chases, epic super-powered fight scenes, and explosions galore – and we can’t wait.

Basically, Sly’s on top form once again.

Samaritan, which also stars Orange Is The New Black’s Dascha Polanco, Martin Starr and Moises Arias, is set for release on 24 August.

The Rocky legend is not exactly slowing down, with his films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and The Expendables 4 currently in post-production, and last year said he’s keen to work on a Rocky TV prequel.

He said at the time: ‘I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel for streaming. Ideally 10 episodes for a few seasons to really get to the heart of the characters in their younger years.

‘Here is a small portion of how my creative writing process starts…Hope it happens.’

Samaritan will be available to stream on Prime Video on August 24.
