As the children’s favourite Paw Patrol and the iconic horror film Saw get ready to hit theatres this month, there will be a puppy carnage. Barbenheimer will ultimately have to leave the stage to the left.
Barbenheimer, a name used to signify the conflict between Barbie and Oppenheimer since both films were released on the same day, July 21, has been the focus of increased expectation in recent weeks.
Barbie has since broken box office records, having earned over $781 million to date and being close to breaking the $1 billion mark. Oppenheimer hasn’t done too badly either, earning $406 million, and there are expectations that the cast, which includes Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, will be nominated for Oscars in the upcoming year.
However, with Saw X and Paw Patrol 2 slated for release in US theatres on September 29, the two blockbusters will have to make room for the newcomers.
In the tenth installment of the renowned horror series Saw, Jigsaw, played by Tobin Bell, travels to Mexico for an experimental medical treatment in the hopes of treating his disease.
But when he realises the whole plan is a fake designed to prey on the weakest, John is inspired to use his original test of terrifying traps and life-threatening situations to teach the con artists a lesson.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie aims to draw in young children during their summer vacation. After a meteor strikes Adventure City, the puppies get superpowers, and the star-studded sequel follows Chase and his friends as they watch.
Basically, when SawPatrol lands in October, both adults and their kids will be well taken care of.
Despite being two very different films, there will be fierce rivalry for the weekend box office crown, and moviegoers are already anticipating the new dual.
‘The crossover I never knew I needed,’ one tweeted in excitement, while another announced: ‘I’ll be seeing both back to back.’
‘I easily skipped Oppenheimer BUT the Saw Patrol double feature will be a must see,’ one admitted.
However, others weren’t so quick to jump on the bandwagon as one claimed: ‘They want their barbenheimer moment so bad.’
‘They will NEVER be Barbenheimer,’ another cinema fan stated.
While SawPatrol will air in the US, it will take place in a somewhat different manner in the UK because Saw X debuts sooner on October 13 and Paw Patrol does not until October 27.
