The Marvel franchise has thrown up a number of truly iconic characters since its inception. For actors, the series of films have exposed them to worldwide audiences and helped elevate their careers even further. Even though Emily Blunt might have had enough of the superhero genre, the rest of the world can’t seem to get enough of it.
Marvel is regarded as being the best franchise in the genre, with a number of hit movies released. Much-loved characters have been brought to life also, with villains leaving a lasting impression in particular. From the likes of Iron Man to The Avengers to Guardians of the Galaxy, these types of movies just wouldn’t be the same without a dark force trying to get in the way. Clashes of good and evil are what fans of the genre love to see, with a number of epic scenes being created off the back of these truly memorable rivalries.
Opinions are rife on this particular topic, too. Some fans feel the Marvel villains aren’t quite up to scratch on the whole, while others have an indisputable great in mind or villains they hold close to their hearts. With that in mind, we thought we’d throw our hat into the ring and highlight a few classic Marvel villains from over the years.
Red Skull
One of the oldest villains in the Marvel series, Red Skull’s ties to the Nazi regime since World War II made him the perfect villain for Captain America to tackle. Red Skull not only looked horrifying, but he played a vital role in the turning of Captain America to Hydra. Red Skull eventually faltered due to his own manipulation in Secret Empire, but he definitely made enough of an impression to make the list.
The Winter Soldier
The Winter Soldier had to be included purely down to his dangerousness. A formidable bad guy, he features in some of the franchise’s best combat scenes, and his affiliation to Steve Rogers made him an intriguing character to follow throughout.
Loki

A master of both lying and causing mischief, Loki’s clever manipulation skills make him one of the most memorable characters from the Marvel franchise. Initially depicted as a hero alongside Thor, Loki soon turns sour as he becomes jealous of his stepbrother and learns of his affiliation to another world after being taken in as a baby by Odin. Loki even ended up masquerading as Odin himself in one of the movies, although he was behind a number of disloyal actions throughout the franchise. It’s worth pointing out that Loki isn’t all bad, though.
Thanos
Regarded as being the ultimate villain from the franchise, Thanos is a cosmic brute who played an integral role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Played by Josh Brolin, the actor who featured in classic movies like The Goonies, which have had games created off the back of its success like The Goonies slot game at casino.com. Thanos managed to get the reality-altering Infinity Gauntlet, destroy half the universe and many Marvel heroes before it eventually all falls to pieces. Thanos was famous from the Marvel Comics series but seeing the character brought to life on the big screen was definitely a treat for fans.
Laufey
A popular villain from the Thor movie, Laufey is depicted as the fierce enemy of the Asgardian king Odin, father of Thor. King of the Frost Giants, Laufey is actually the father of the aforementioned Loki and played a leading role in a number of crucial decisions Loki would eventually go on to make. Laufey looked pretty damn scary too, we might add.
