We all know that James Cameron’s Titanic was not shot on the genuine Titanic.
However, some individuals are only now discovering how phoney the film is.
The romance/drama, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, was released in 1997 and portrays a fictionalised story of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912.
It is perhaps one of the most recognised films of all time, making over two billion dollars at the box office.
There’s no disputing that the entire thing is incredibly spectacular, as the producers honestly made it appear like a ship was sinking in the middle of the night in the ocean.
But it’s the tiny things that people are starting to notice all these years later.
Despite all of the spectacular effects in the three-hour catastrophe film, Cameron did utilise real people and actual settings – for the most part.
In one viral TikTok, a woman was left in stitches after thoroughly examining a certain scenario and finding that the passengers on board were, in fact, not humans at all.
Instead, CGI was employed to rebuild the ship and its occupants.
And there’s a considerable difference between 1997 CGI and the mind-blowing effects we’re used to in 2023.
The sequence in question occurs immediately after the Titanic sets sail, and the camera pans across the ship before focusing in on the captain.
At first look, you might not think twice about it, especially in the days of VHS.
But the quality isn’t what it used to be.
The passengers are small, their faces are veiled, and the captain looks like Michael Myers running after Laurie Strode on Halloween night.
TikToker Jess couldn’t stop giggling while filming her response to the situation.
‘Is this the new Sims 4 Titanic expansion pack?’, one social media user joked.
‘Ok I’ll go watch titanic for the millionth time just to see this 😂’, another laughed.
‘Our good tvs are ruining old movies now 😂😂😂’, wrote another.
‘Omg I never noticed 😭’, another said.
However, many individuals were quick to point out how ‘groundbreaking’ such images were back in the 1990s.
‘Trust me when titanic was in the cinema we never even noticed because back then this was cutting edge!’, one person argued.
‘Considering this was released in the late 90s, that’s pretty decent CGI!’, agreed another.
Still, it gives us a good laugh now!
