Fans are perplexed as a key character member has been recast in the recently released trailer for Paddington in Peru.
The first two Paddington films, which starred Ben Whishaw as the adored bear who loves marmalade sandwiches, were so successful that there is a great deal of anticipation for the third entry in the series.
On Wednesday, June 12, the movie’s trailer debuted, and viewers were thrilled to see a preview of the updated plot, which has Paddington and the Brown family travelling to Peru to see Aunt Lucy.
When fans discovered that Sally Hawkins, who had portrayed Mrs Brown in the first two films, had been replaced, they were taken aback.
‘Why did they change the actress of Mrs Brown,’ asked AshynanB on X formerly known as Twitter. Levaskarr added: ‘It’s not the same without Sally Hawkins!!!’

The teaser revealed that Emily Mortimer, best known for her roles in Match Point, Pink Panther, Lars and the Real Girl, and The Newsroom, will be joining the cast as Mrs. Brown.
While some fans were taken aback by this, Sally, who played Mrs. Brown in the first two films, said in June of last year that she would not be playing the role again.
In a statement to Variety, the actress said she was delighted to be handing the role over to Emily.
‘For me, it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another, and one can’t get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer, she is extraordinarily special. She will embody the essence of Mary Brown and yet make it utterly her own.
‘However, I am, and will always be in love with Paddington’s world. I already greatly miss my on and off-screen family – the experience of making the first two films has truly been some of the best and most creative times I have had in the world of film.
‘They both gave me so much joy. I will forever hold them so very close to my heart indeed.’
After watching the trailer, fans were also delighted to see that Olivia Colman had joined the cast. The trailer revealed that Olivia is set to play a nun in Peru who tells Paddington that Aunt Lucy has ‘set off on some kind of quest’.

Antonio Banderas has also joined the cast in the role of Hunter Cabot, a boat driver who assists the Browns during their adventures through the Amazon and Peru.
Since the first two movies were out in 2014 and 2017, respectively, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the third movie for a very long time.
Paddington in Peru is set to be released later this year and fans cannot wait to see the new film. Shutupimogen commented on X: ‘So excited!!!! will have the marmalade sandwiches ready for the 8th of November.’
