More Ghostface? Scream directors tease sixth sequel as fans go wild for new film

The new Scream film has had fans going to the cinemas in their droves, ready to be scared silly by Ghostface once again.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette returned to the cast to battle the masked serial killer, alongside newbies Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett stepping in to direct.

Following the success of the fifth movie in the slasher franchise, the filmmakers are already eyeing up the possibility of a Scream 6.

And we need this to happen immediately.

In a chat with Variety, Matt told the publication: ‘So much of the movie is about fandom and what it means to be a fan and how you feel about it. We have these meta-upon-meta moments, where we’re like, holy s**t, like we are making a fan film about the making of a fan film about one of our favorite franchises. You could spiral.’

‘There was really some comfort in that, I think,’ Tyler agreed. ‘Knowing that the movie itself was about fandom, I think that there was, there was an entry point for us that was really, really personal, and really emotional. The love letter of it was really real for us and was really easy for us to connect to.’

‘The whole experience has been such like a family experience, with the cast with the crew with the producers,’ Matt added.

‘Not to be corny, but it’s been a love fest, and I think we’d be crazy not to want to continue it.’

Well, seeing as though the fifth instalment has hit the top spot in the box office, it’s safe to say we’ll have another helping on our hands soon.

According to reports, it didn’t take long for the flick to slash all other competition out of the way, earning an estimated $30.6million (£22million) at the box office in the US.
