Since the release of the teaser for Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and directed by Greta Gerwig, fans have been infatuated with one sequence in particular.
In the teaser, Margot Robbie’s 32-year-old titular woman steps out of her bright pink shoes, only to have her feet remain perfectly arched.
Anyone who grew up playing with Barbies will recall that the dolls’ feet remain arched even after their shoes are removed, but Margot did the manoeuvre so flawlessly that it appeared CGI was used.
But, as it turned out, those magnificent feet, arch and all, belonged entirely to Margot.
In a new interview, the actress revealed that she just ‘hold onto a bar’ and that ‘no harness’ was utilised. Mind. Blown.
Margot was questioned about the sequence and how long it took to film alongside her Barbie co-stars Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and America Ferrera to Fandango.
‘Probably about eight takes,’ the Australian actress said, adding: ‘They are my feet.’
Margot went on: ‘I walked up, we had little sticky bits on the floor, for the double-sided tape for the shoes so they wouldn’t come off – so I could get my feet out of them.
‘I was holding onto a bar, but that’s it. I wasn’t in a harness or anything like that. I just walked up, kind of held onto the bar above camera.’
Margot’s co-stars were plainly astounded that her feet stayed arched even after the heels were removed, leading her to reveal that she used to do ballet.
Barbie will be released in theatres on July 21 and follows the world-famous doll as she leaves Barbie Land with Ken (played by Ryan Gosling) and begins a life with other humans.
Greta, who co-wrote the picture with her writer/director partner Noah Baumbach, recently warned audiences to anticipate the unexpected.
