Jude Law, beloved for his role in the holiday classic *The Holiday*, recently revealed some surprising behind-the-scenes details about the 2006 film.
During an appearance on BBC Radio 2 with Zoe Ball and comedian Kerry Godliman, the 51-year-old actor shared the heartbreaking truth about one of the movie’s most iconic features: the idyllic cottage in Surrey never existed.
Jude played Graham, a widower who falls for Amanda (Cameron Diaz) after she swaps homes with journalist Iris (Kate Winslet). Rosehill Cottage, the picturesque countryside retreat central to the film, was beloved by fans for its snow-covered charm and cozy interiors. However, when asked by Kerry if the cottage could be rented on Airbnb, Jude confessed the disappointing reality.
“That cottage doesn’t exist,” Jude revealed. “The director toured Surrey looking for the perfect spot but didn’t find it, so she had a field cleared and had it built.”
The surprising revelations didn’t stop there. Jude added, “We filmed the exteriors during winter in the UK, but the interior scenes were shot three months later in Los Angeles.”
The shocking details left Zoe and Kerry reeling. “We can’t bear to hear anymore,” Zoe joked, while Kerry chimed in, “That’s very upsetting.”
Despite the fictional nature of Rosehill Cottage, it was inspired by a real location: Honeysuckle Cottage in Holmbury St Mary, Surrey. This property, which has been an Airbnb listing since 2021, helped shape the cozy aesthetic that fans adore. Additional scenes from the film were shot in the picturesque Surrey villages of Shere and Godalming.
While these revelations might burst some fans’ bubbles, there’s still hope for *The Holiday* devotees. Earlier this year, Jude hinted at the possibility of a sequel during an interview at New York City’s Tribeca Festival. “I love the idea,” he told E! News, although he clarified that the decision rests with the film’s writer and director, Nancy Meyers. “Why not?” he added, fueling speculation about a potential follow-up.
Even though the dreamy cottage wasn’t real, *The Holiday* remains a fan favorite, and the idea of a sequel keeps the magic alive for those who adore this modern Christmas classic.
