Don’t Look Up viewers who allowed their curiosity get the better of them discovered a phone number featured in the film leads to a sex hotline.
Netflix’s star-studded blockbuster, with Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep, follows two astronomers desperately trying to warn the world that an asteroid is on the way to wipe out humanity.
In one scene, Leonardo’s character, Randall Mindy, appears in a public service announcement urging Americans to call a phone number – 1-800-532-4500 – if they seek ‘peace of mind’ in light of the news that planet Earth will be destroyed by the comet.
Some intrigued viewers were keen to find out if the number was real and got more than they bargained for as, when they rang up, found it to be a sex hotline.
According to People and the New York Post, an automated message from a female voice says: ‘Welcome to America’s hottest hotline. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you. Press 1 now.
‘Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press 2 to connect free now.’
One stunned viewer tweeted: ‘Am I the only one that called the FEMA/Bash hotline and got a phone sex operator?’
Another revealed: ‘Called the 800 number they used in Don’t Look Up. It’s a phone sex chat service. LMAO, good prank.’
One other reacted: ‘Kudos to you Don’t Look Up to having the BASH hotline for their asteroid stress prevention hotline being linked to a Hot Singles in Your Area phone number.’
