Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s film Wolfs will reportedly not be getting a sequel after all.
Prior to the crime thriller’s premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Apple TV+ had reportedly signed a deal with director Jon Watts for a follow-up. However, Jon recently revealed the sequel plans have been scrapped.
“I don’t know what I’m directing next and I don’t think there’s going to be a Wolfs sequel,” Watts shared in an interview with Collider.
The original comedy-thriller was a major investment, with production costs allegedly reaching $200 million (£158 million), making it one of the most expensive TV movies ever. In August, *The Hollywood Reporter* and Deadline reported that Brad, 60, and George, 63, would reprise their roles in a planned sequel.
Released in September, Wolfs received mixed reviews. The plot features Brad and George as rival professional fixers forced to collaborate on the same job. Despite being Apple TV+’s most-viewed feature film, critics were divided. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film earned a 69% critic score, with some calling it “staggeringly banal” while others praised it as a “genuine delight.”
Viewer Courtney Howard deemed it “meh” on X, while another user, Movie Moustache, expressed disappointment over the sequel’s cancellation, saying, “I enjoyed the first movie and was looking forward to seeing where Watts and co. would take those two lone wolves.”
Despite the mixed reception, Apple Original Films’ head of features Matt Dentler celebrated its success, stating, “Audiences have chosen in droves to make Wolfs part of their weekend, making the movie a global blockbuster.”
Initially planned for a wide theatrical release, bWolfs was limited to a one-week run before streaming on Apple TV+. George Clooney acknowledged the limited release as a disappointment, stating, “We wanted it. That’s why Brad and I gave some of our salary back to make it happen.” The duo reportedly earned over $35 million (£26 million) each for their roles and as co-producers, though Clooney dismissed these figures, saying, “It’s significantly less. I think inflated numbers are bad for our industry.”
Brad Pitt added, “We’ll always be romantic about the theatrical experience, but I love the streamers because they allow more stories to be told and seen.”
Wolfs is available to stream on Apple TV+.
