H&M’s Conscious Collection is always one of the highlights on the fashion calendar.

The sustainably focused collection always wows, and this year is no different. 2020 has seen us move away from glamour and flock to loungewear, but H&M’s latest Conscious offering is paying tribute to the art of dressing up.

Taffeta, frills, and sparkles have not been seen since Christmas last year. While floor-length gowns and smart tailoring feel like items from another era. H&M Conscious has all of these and more. Throwing caution to the wind, the brand is ending the year with a collection that screams drama and fun.

H&M describes its Conscious Collection as ‘creating beauty from waste.’ Each piece is made from materials that would have otherwise been disposed of. A unique textile-to-textile recycling process turns waste textiles into high-quality polyester.

This year the brand is using two new materials: Hemp Biofibre™, made from oilseed hemp crop waste, and Naia™ Renew, a cellulosic fibre sourced from circular content. The collection also uses fabrics made from post-consumer carpet fibre, post-industrial plastic packaging and PET bottles.

Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M says of the collection: ‘The pieces in this collection are crafted from truly amazing materials produced from waste. Working with this kind of transformation and being able to speak to our customers through beauty, we hope that waste can be part of the future of sustainable fashion.’

Prices start at £19.99 and go up to £229.99, meaning much of the collection does not come cheap, but these are meant to be pieces you will keep forever.

The collection is filled with occasionwear, with dresses being a focal point. From the full-length green tulle dream to the floral lycocell-blend boho dress, any future wedding outfit concerns can be quashed.

The collection drops on December 1 (Picture: H&M)

However, that doesn’t mean practicality isn’t present.

Tailored pieces in the form of trousers and blazers can be mixed and matched with denim and knits in your existing wardrobe.

With Christmas only weeks away, we may have more options to dress up than we have had all year.

The velvet black mini and fabric flower-covered dresses are perfect options for Christmas Day dinner at home.

And for those who love sparkle, the collection also features a solid selection of accessories from shining statement necklaces to clip-on earrings.
