There is power in a pair of stilettos.
It’s the height and the stature, the way they force you to straighten your back and align your posture.
A stiletto exudes confidence, prowess and a strong sense of who you are.
On the other hand, a pair of crocs emanates leisure, chill vibes and not really knowing what to do with yourself on a Saturday.
So what do you get when you put a pair of Crocs and stilettos together? Something very interesting indeed.
Design house Balenciaga recently unveiled its latest collaboration with the footwear brand at its spring 2022 runway show.
This time, creative director Demna Gvasalia produced knee-high croc boots and stilettos in the form of the classic foam clog.
According to the show notes, the creations are called ‘Balenciaga Crocs 2.0.’
The boots aren’t unlike the heavy wellington style that showered social media last year, while the stilettos are the classic Croc shape but with an added heel to elevate them to new fashion heights.
When Gvasalia first collaborated with Crocs in 2017, he told French Vogue: ‘We were inspired by Crocs and we worked with them on a Balenciaga reinterpretation. Balenciaga x Crocs isn’t impossible, the question of taste is a very subjective value.
‘I wore Crocs this summer to see how I felt about them and they are the world’s comfiest shoes!
‘I just wanted give to give them a fashionable touch: a platform. At the end of the day, fashion is all about having fun.’
That collaboration was a huge success and quickly sold out, so the same may happen for these Croc creations
Thanks to TikTok and Gen Z, Crocs have found a new place among the cool kids. They are no longer a shoe to laze around the house in, they are now a regular feature in the #ootds of the youth.
Meanwhile, Crocs is also partnering with producer and DJ Diplo.
He announced the news in an Instagram post that read: ‘On a summer day deep in quarantine I was on a spirit walk lost in Joshua tree. A roadrunner ran past me and whispered in my ear to make mushroom crocs.’
The footwear is an eclectic mix of colours and shapes with mushroom shaped ‘Jibbitz’ (inserts that decorate the holes in the shoe) that glow in the dark.
And if the classic Croc isn’t your fashion preference, Diplo has also created a strapped sandal for summer wear.
