Vernon Kay has announced that he will run an ultramarathon to raise funds for Children In Need this year.
On Monday morning, the Radio 2 broadcaster, 49, appeared on Zoe Ball‘s breakfast programme to reveal his astounding fundraising runs.
Vernon will run marathons and ultramarathons over four days to travel from London’s Victoria Park to the stadium of Bolton Wanderers football club.
Vernon has been a fan of his hometown side Bolton since he was a boy, and he has been spotted at many of the team’s games, featuring comedian and actor Paddy McGuiness.
Vernon’s challenge will begin on Tuesday, November 14, and will end at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 17, which is Children In Need Appeal Day.
According to the BBC, he will walk about 115 miles, with each step of his journey being aired live on Radio 2 throughout the country.
Speaking about the upcoming challenge, Vernon said: “I was just settling into my new mid-morning routine and now this!’
‘Everyone who has previously undertaken a BBC Children in Need challenge has raised so much money for this brilliant charity, so the pressure is on.’
He also admitted that the ‘pressure is on’ but that he was looking forward to taking the challenge on despite the immense difficulties ahead.
The BBC say: ‘Presenters will be broadcasting their regular shows offering Vernon support and keeping him spurred on with messages from the listeners.’
‘Vernon will also be broadcasting his own weekday morning show live whilst undertaking the challenge,’ being helped along his way by special guests.
Radio 2 director Helen Thomas said: ‘Who better than to take on this year’s Radio 2 challenge for BBC Children in Need than the newest member of our family?’
Vernon celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary with Tess Daly earlier this month, who has spent September welcoming us back to Strictly Come Dancing.
The famous couple married in September 2003 and have two children, Phoebe, 18, and Amber, 13, together in the years following.
Watch Children In Need on Friday, November 17 on the BBC.
