Ulrika Jonsson has given Vanessa Feltz advice on how to heal from sorrow, admitting that ‘it stinks’.

Vanessa, 60, declared the breakup of her 16-year relationship with fiancé Ben Ofoedu, 50, saying she was’shocked, heartbroken, and saddened’ to be in this position.

Infidelity allegations have lately rocked their relationship, with Vanessa allegedly finding social media chats between Ben and other women.

Swedish-British TV personality Ulrika hurried to give her ‘heartfelt sympathies’ to Vanessa on the break-up in her current column, referring to the impact from a separation as ‘the type of misery that envelops your entire body and affects every part of your existence’.

Ulrika also described Vanessa’s situation as a “terrible double whammy” after her first husband, physician Dr Michael Kurer, left her after 17 years of marriage due to his adultery.

‘It has crippled me many times.

‘It has left me feeling physically paralysed, emotionally suffocated and psychologically bewildered in one fell swoop – sadly, on more than one occasion,’ Ulrika wrote in The Sun.

The 55-year-old, who has been married three times and was recently divorced, was eager to provide practical advise to the regular This Morning contributor.

Vanessa appeared on ITV’s morning show on Wednesday, urging people to contact her about the best methods to recover from sorrow, rather than the other way around, as is customary.

Ulrika recommended relying on friends and getting a dog, as well as not delaying coping with the pain of heartbreak (Picture: ITV)

‘If you’ve got stuff that you want to tell me, I’d be really grateful to receive it, because I really feel like I’m in the eye of the storm at the moment. I haven’t got to the bit where I can look back on it, I’m right in it,’ she admitted.

Ulrika’s realistic counsel to the former BBC Radio 2 DJ was straightforward and based on her own experience.

First, she told Vanessa to rely on ‘the unfathomable love and friendship of family, close friends – and sometimes even strangers’ that would be able to ‘help keep you upright’.

She also told her to allow herself to be tearful and to ‘cry as much as you can’.

‘You’re in part lamenting what was, and in part what should have been,’ she explained.

Vanessa’s next piece of advice was to ‘distract herself’ and ‘go and do pleasant things,’ such as a night out, a massage, or ‘hitting the pinot’.

Ulrika was cautious not to encourage her media companion to conceal her feelings, instead telling her that she should ‘ride out’ her sadness.

‘I’m not saying I embrace it lovingly but I’d rather suffer the pain as it’s happening than pretend I’m fine, then have a nervous breakdown three months down the line,’ she wrote.

The former Gladiators host also stated that while having a dog will not heal a broken heart, ‘their love is unconditional, and mine have kept me going through many a heartbreak’.

Finally, Ulrika advised Vanessa not to ‘hide her emotions’ from her daughters, Allegra, 37, and Saskia, 34, since ‘kids shouldn’t dread sorrow and sadness’.

Vanessa admitted that her heart had’snapped into a million pieces’ after the split and that she was frightened about the future, but she was determined to ‘keep on trucking’.
