Following her encounter with none other than Tom Hardy, a teenage girl remarked that she felt like “Christmas came early.”
On the evening before Christmas, thirteen-year-old Eliza Cartwright and her father Michael were out shopping in Stockton-on-Tees when they came across the famous person.
It appears that Tom had the same idea as the father and daughter who were shopping for last-minute gifts at Smyths Toy Superstore on Portrack Lane.
According to Michael, he went up to the famous actor and asked him if he would mind if Eliza and he took a picture together.
Tom, ever the gentleman, kindly complied with her request, and it’s abundantly evident from the enormous grin on Eliza’s face that she was having the time of her life.
Michael told Teesside Live: ‘She was over the moon, it definitely made her Christmas.’
He added: ‘We’d just been to the Middlesbrough stadium to pick up some tickets and they’d given her some free stuff as well, so she was already on cloud nine that the staff at the Boro ground had given her free stuff, then to go there as our next stop and bump into Tom Hardy she was just overwhelmed. I don’t think she’ll ever forget this one.’
Michael joked that he and Eliza were worried that her mum Emma might be brought to tears by the fact she’d been at home preparing for Christmas Day when the encounter happened, but thankfully, she took the news well.
‘My wife is a big fan and she wasn’t there unfortunately, so she was a bit devastated,’ Michael shared.
‘But I wished him a merry Christmas because it was Christmas Eve, just a few hours before the shops were closing for Christmas Day so it was nice to see him on Christmas Eve.’
The doting father also shared with the publication that he took sure not to keep Tom for too long because it was “his Christmas Eve too,” but he stated that the Taboo actor was more than delighted to be photographed.
Tom has strong ties to the region, as his grandfather was born in the vicinity, and his wife, Charlotte Riley, is from Thorpe Thewles. Tom has been observed on Teesside on a few times, and he has connections to the area.
