After his last Instagram story, you’d be excused for believing Tom Hardy was going to feature in a mediaeval film, but the truth is far more weird.
While out for a stroll, the Venom actor came upon a jousting match with participants dressed in period costumes.
Tom got involved in the mediaeval action, which was a far cry from his Cbeebies bedtime tales episodes but potentially evocative of his experience on the set of The Reckoning (2003).
We’re not sure who was more taken aback: the 45-year-old or the unwitting bards, knights, princes, and princesses at The Loxwood Joust event.
Tom discovered the West Sussex event, which invites visitors to ‘step back in time’ into a “mediaeval realm of combat, chivalry, and romance.”
The Peaky Blinders star couldn’t help himself and ended up dressed as a knight to participate in the fighting, ‘like you do’, he said.
He commented on his Instagram account after posting videos of the competition, ‘This may have happened today…’ ‘An unplanned day out in the English countryside dashing to the shops.’
Tom is no stranger to brawls, having won gold in a Jiu-Jitsu competition in September at a nearby Milton Keynes school.
In August, he also competed in a charity event in Wolverhampton, where he won two gold medals.
This time, though, he wore complete metal armour and a helmet that was more heavy than Bane’s mask.
‘Thanks for the beatings,’ Tom joked before adding: ‘Not quite BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) but not bad either.’
Of course, he stopped to pose for photos with onlookers, evidently enjoying his unexpected time as a mediaeval knight.
