Tom Hanks and Marilyn Monroe flick Blonde lead Razzie nominations despite Bafta nods for Elvis and Ana De Armas

The Razzie nominees are in, and Ana De Armas and Tom Hanks are not among them.

Every year, when celebs collect their Oscars, Baftas, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice Awards, another, less-coveted award ceremony takes place.

The Razzies, also known as the Golden Raspberry Award, honour the year’s worst films and performances and are not an honour you’d want to have on your acting resume.

Some celebrities, such as Sandra Bullock, who accepted her award for worst actress in person and even gave a speech, can be excellent sports about it all.

The awards have also been controversial, with the Razzies apologising to Bruce Willis last year following his aphasia diagnosis after he was nominated and won in a category created specifically for him – ‘worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie’.

Other big names have been nominated this year, with Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde leading the field with eight nods.

Blonde is nominated for worst picture, worst script, worst director, and two nods for worst screen pair, worst remake/rip-off/sequel, and worst supporting actor for Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams, respectively.

Ana can at least breathe a sigh of relief because she was not nominated, with the worst actress nominations going to Ryan. Bryce Dallas Howard, Diane Keaton, Kaya Scodelario, and Alii Silverstone star.

It would have been a significant leap of faith, given that the Knives Out actress is up for a Bafta for main actress for her work as Marilyn in the film.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be true for Oscar winner Tom Hanks, whose acting abilities are under scrutiny in the 2023 Razzies.

While the Elvis biopic has received nine Bafta nods, it has also received two Razzie nominations, both of which target the Forrest Gump star.

Tom is competing for worst supporting actor alongside Pete Davidson, Mod Sun and Blonde’s Xavier and Evan, and the film is also up for worst screen pair for, as they put it, ‘Tom Hanks & his latex-laden face (and laughable accent)’ in Elvis.

Because of his participation in Disney’s Pinocchio remake, the actor is also in the running for worst actor.

Machine Gun Kelly, or Colson Baker, was also nominated for seven Razzies for his stoner comedy Good Mourning, which came in just behind Blonde.

Kelly’s film is up for several awards, including worst picture, worst actor (MGK), two worst supporting actors (Mod and Pete), worst screen pair (MGK and Mod), worst director, and worst writing.

The Razzies also joined the internet in mocking Jared Leto’s Morbius, with five nominations; Disney’s Pinnochio has six, and The King’s Daughter has three.

The Razzies, which are usually lighthearted, came under criticism last year when Die Hard star Bruce was reported to be suffering from aphasia, a type of dementia that affects a person’s linguistic skills.

Razzies co-founders John Wilson and Mo Murphy apologised and decided to revoke the Razzies Bruce had received, stating that “if someone’s physical condition plays a part in their decision making and/or performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to grant them a Razzie.”

Their representative explained that the Razzies were ignorant of Willis’ illness at the time of the nominations and awards.

Willis earned the Oscar for his performance in Cosmic Sin, one of seven films he released last year.
