Tom Parker has praised the coronavirus vaccine roll-out after having his first jab on Wednesday, as he falls into the ‘vulnerable’ group.
The Wanted star, 32, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour, is in the priority group for the clinically extremely vulnerable and was given his first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
He told PA: ‘I hope that people go out of their way to do it. I understand people’s concerns about it but there is no real need to be concerned.
‘Obviously everything has moved so quickly. They have had to really step up the game on the vaccination. And fair play to the teams behind the scenes. They have been working day and night to do it.
‘Now obviously we have got a vaccination already rolled out, which I think it is incredible in such a short space of time.’
He added that the vaccine was ‘reassuring’, explaining: ‘I think for me it is tough because I have got to go for treatment and stuff.’
The father of two was also impressed with the way the process was handled, adding: ‘I was genuinely quite impressed because they have had to roll it out really quickly. Everyone was super helpful. I got a little pack with what to expect.’
Tom shared photos and videos of his trip to Guy’s Hospital in London to get the vaccine, urging others to take it up when they get offered it.
Sharing a photo of him in the vaccination centre with a surgical mask on, he urged his followers: ‘Just get it done so we can all move on.’
Tom had revealed in October that he had been diagnosed with an inoperable stage-four glioblastoma and had begun treatment in the hope of prolonging his life.
He shared a positive update in January as he had received news from his doctors that there had been a ‘significant reduction’ in the size of his tumour and that he was ‘responding well to treatment’.
Tom and wife Kelsey have been married since 2018 and share one-year-old daughter Aurelia Rose as well as their son Bodhi, who was born in October last year, shortly after Tom’s brain tumour was discovered.
