Susanna Reid had a blunt response to a troll who asked whether she had ‘put on some weight’, as fans rushed to express support for the star on Twitter.
The 51-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter – who recently impressed viewers with her recent grilling of Boris Johnson on the ITV breakfast show – replied directly to the troll’s offensive and invasive comment.
In a reply sent to Susanna, the Twitter user wrote: ‘Have you put on some weight? You are looking very chunky.’
The broadcaster reposted the message, replying curtly: ‘Yes.’
The TV presenter was inundated with support from friends and fans who were angry and upset on her behalf.
GMB news correspondent Katy Rickitt commented: ‘Why do people think this is ok?! I had one “oh isn’t your nose big from the side?” When on calendar… You look gorgeous Susanna and the fact this person is a cartoon pic says it all.’
Another added: ‘Oh Susanna, there are some dreadful people around. You are beautiful and so brilliant.’
‘Yes, the extra weight of responsibility now that so many people are relying on you for your brilliant brilliant interviewing prowess in the context of an otherwise largely supine media,’ one fan tweeted.
Meanwhile, Susanna’s masterful interview with the Prime Minister resulted in over a million people tuning in to watch the ITV programme, which marked the show’s highest peak audience since April 2021.
The interview was conducted live from Downing Street, with the conversation touching on partygate and the cost of the living crisis.
In one clip that was viewed over three million times on Twitter, they discussed the plight of a 77-year-old woman named Elsie who eats only one meal a day to avoid using energy at home.
Susanna was commended by viewers for pushing the politician to answer the questions the public wants to know, and not letting him get off-topic to avoid answering what she had asked.
Speaking after their heated discussion, Susanna joked that she was ‘surprised she wasn’t thrown out’ after taking him to task.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, she said: ‘Yeah, it was remarkable speaking to him. Look, it’s been almost five years since Boris Johnson has appeared on Good Morning Britain and for just over two of those years he has been Prime Minister.’
She added: ‘Fascinating talking to him – you know, it’s historic even being in this building, even being in this room but of course the weight of those partygate fines hangs over these premises.’
