Ore Oduba has described his family’s suffering after becoming entangled in the travel nightmare that has delayed hundreds of British visitors overseas.
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant travelled to Greece with his wife Portia and their two children, Roman, four, and Genie, one.
However, the family’s lovely summer vacation has turned into a nightmare as their trip home to Gatwick was postponed owing to air traffic disruption.
On Monday, around 10% of planes departing and arriving at UK airports were delayed owing to a malfunction that forced air traffic controllers to manually enter flight plans. Hundreds of thousands of passengers were delayed as a result, and the disruption is anticipated to last for many days.
Portia, Ore’s wife, documented their nightmare on Instagram, revealing that they didn’t have nappies or clean pants for their children.
‘Currently ‘stranded’ in Greece with no flight home,’ she wrote alongside photos of her looking exasperated.
‘No nappies and no clean knickers. @easyjet have cancelled all flights leaving till Sunday. But it’s ok. They’ve offered us a voucher for the next time we fly. Maybe we can fly home on that, magic carpet style. 👍🏻 great customer service @easyjet.’
She joked: ‘I better sharpen up on my Greek as at this rate we are going to become citizens.’
Portia, who married Ore, 37, in 2015, shared more details in a video, explaining: ‘The next available flight from where we’re staying back to London Gatwick isn’t until Sunday I believe so we’re trying to find an alternative flight, potentially trying to get to another island and fly with a different airline who’s flights are all still leaving.’
The mum-of-two also revealed how Roman and Genie were ‘not playing ball’ and began to ‘kick up’ a fuss as she and Ore tried to organise another room at their hotel.
‘It’s all been quite stressful as you can imagine – as it will be for many, many people this week. We do however have an amazing travel rep who is trying her very best to get us home!’ she said.
‘Also. The kids have no clean clothes left and I don’t have any clean knicks… so that’s great. Sink washes all round.’
Christine McGuinness and Dawn O’Porter have revealed their ordeals while detained in sunny places overseas, joining Ore and Portia.
TV star Christine told her followers: ‘No idea when we can get a flight home.’
However, finding the good out of a bad situation, she added: ‘I had jobs booked all week, a million thigs to do at home getting ready to prep for “back to school” but… we [were] meant to stay longer, we have more memories to make, time with my babies is priceless.’
Presenter Dawn shared her frustration from Spain and said: ‘Anyone with any knowledge know if there is any chance of landing at Gatwick today? Should I go through security or not? THAT IS THE QUESTION.
‘On my own with the kids so deffo don’t want to be stuck there for the night. Obvs no one here knows anything.’
‘Sorry for everyone travelling today. Such bull***t,’ she added.
