Steve Irwin’s wife Terri finally joins Instagram and her first post is heartbreaking and beautiful all at once

Terri Irwin, Steve Irwin’s wife, joined Instagram on Saturday and quickly gained tens of thousands of followers.

Terri, 59, was married to Steve from 1992 to 2006, the year he was murdered by a stingray at the age of 44.

Terri and Steve, better known as The Crocodile Hunter, have two children, Robert and Bindi, who are conservationists like their parents.

Terri has only posted one photo to her new Instagram page so far, and it is as devastating as it is beautiful.

Terri shared some tragic lines written by British poet Thomas Osbert Mordaunt alongside a black and white flashback photo of herself and her late husband wearing lizards on their hats.

She captioned her post: ‘One crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name.’

It didn’t take long for thoughtful comments to build up beneath Terri’s picture, with many of her followers emphasising how much of an influence she and Steve had been.

One person said: ‘You are an inspiration! I have admired you since I was a kid and now am a cheetah trainer and followed my dreams.’

Another added: ‘Since I was a little kid you and your husband have taught me so much and inspired in me a tremendous amount of love for wildlife worldwide.’

Someone else wrote: ‘Good to see you, Terri! Thank you for being a massive part of my childhood. It’s beyond inspiring to see the legacy you’re helping carry!’

‘I’d like to take a moment and say that Steve had a huge impact on my life. His dedication to wildlife conservation and educating the public about reptiles was inspiring. I am glad to know his legacy lives on!’ another social media user said thoughtfully.

Terri’s daughter Bindi, 25, was also among the first to reply, saying: ‘I love you so much. Welcome to Instagram, Mum.’

Steve, the Crocodile Hunter, was a conservationist and TV celebrity who died in September 2006.

While recording a documentary on Batt Reef, Queensland, he was wounded in the chest by a stingray.
