Skins star Megan Prescott has opened up about becoming a stripper, admitting she was terrified of being recognised for her acting work.
The actress, who played Katie Fitch in the iconic drama, worked in strip clubs in her early 20s, and turned to OnlyFans during the pandemic.
During her time as a stripper, she was concerned people would recognise her from Skins, telling The Sun: ‘I was terrified when I was first doing stripping that it would ruin my acting career but, you know what, at that time I wasn’t getting a whole lot of acting work.’
She recalled one woman recognising her from the show, but others would admit they knew her from somewhere but couldn’t place her.
Over the pandemic, Megan was able to use her role in Skins to her advantage, joining OnlyFans to keep her going while the arts industry took a hit.
She told the publication: ‘If it wasn’t for OnlyFans I wouldn’t have been able to survive the last two years without working seven days a week in menial jobs.
‘I started my page in April 2020 when the pandemic hit as I didn’t get furloughed for a while.’
Megan added that it went well, and she only logs on when she feels like it because it ‘takes a lot out of you.’
The star, now 30, started working as a stripper when she was 22.
She rebuffed the misconception that stripping is easy, with the star insisting that it’s a difficult job – and she wasn’t very good at it.
Megan went on to say that she’s got a huge amount of admiration for the people who are good at it, especially considering the danger of injury that can sometimes come with the job.
She pointed out that no women should be shamed for stripping or showing their bodies.
Megan starred alongside her twin sister Kathryn (Emily Fitch) in Skins, which ran from 2007 to 2013 on Channel 4.
The series became a huge success, making stars of actors including Nicholas Hoult (Tony Stonem), Dev Patel (Anwar Kharral) and Daniel Kaluuya (‘Posh’ Kenneth).
Most recently, Megan has been supporting her sister Kathryn after she was hit by a cement truck in New York City. She was discharged from hospital in October 2021.
