Sir Rod Stewart has revealed he got his hands dirty filling in potholes this week after struggling to get his Ferrari down the roads near his home.

The singer, 77, donned his finest high-vis vest as she shovelled grit into the holes ready to be filled, telling his followers: ‘Working for a living, filling holes is good for the soul.’

He filmed himself telling the camera: ‘I’m repairing the street where I live as no-one can be bothered to do it.’

The Maggie May star then added: ‘This is the state of the road near where I live in Harlow and it’s been like this for ages.

‘People are bashing their cars up. The other day, there was an ambulance with a burst tyre. My Ferrari can’t go through here at all.

‘So me and the boys thought we would come and do it ourselves. We are filling the holes while millions and millions of pounds have been spent on the M11.’

Fans were quick to praise Sir Rod for getting stuck in to solve the problem, commenting: ‘Well done! We live down the road from you and are so glad that finally something has been done about it!’

Others added: ‘Legend Rod! That road is a nightmare!!! Appreciate it’ and ‘Awesome. Those holes were terrible. Thank you Rod.’

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: ‘Whilst we appreciate Sir Rod’s commitment to improving his community, we would discourage anyone from doing work on the roads themselves because without proper traffic management and other specific safety measures, residents are putting themselves at risk.’

Sir Rod’s spot of manual labour for his local community comes after he celebrated the engagement of his daughter Kimberly, 42.

Kimberly, who is the daughter of Sir Rod and his ex-wife Alana Stewart, 76, got engaged to fiancé Jesse Shapira in February after three years of dating, confirming the happy news on Instagram.
