Simon Cowell may have launched the careers of innumerable artists, but he has now unveiled his own vocal abilities publicly for the first time.
For more than two decades, the businessman, record executive, and television personality has developed and judged on a number of talent shows, including Pop Idol, The X Factor UK, and Britain’s Got Talent.
However, throughout the years, he has gained a reputation for not holding back when it comes to voicing his thoughts, particularly on whether budding stars have what it takes to succeed.
He has also signed musicians including Little Mix, Olly Murs, Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, and One Direction.
Simon, 65, has revealed whether or not he can carry a tune.
To commemorate his birthday this week, the music mogul sung Happy Birthday and shared the video on social media.
Despite being one of the music industry’s most powerful personalities, he admitted to having limited vocal ability.
‘That’s why I decided to never be a singer,’ he quipped after wrapping up the tune.
Addressing his milestone birthday, he went on to explain, ‘I am now at an age when people cheer when you tell how old you are, which is depressing.
‘However, I’m alive and healthy and happy and thank you everyone for your kind messages. Take care. Till next year, bye bye.’
Simon’s post was met with a flood of supportive messages, including from other famous faces.
‘Happy, Happy Birthday Simon. Love you with all my heart,’ his fellow America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum wrote.
‘Happy Birthday. I bought you something so amazing I kept it for myself,’ Howie Mandel added.
Not missing his chance for a subtle dig, Piers Morgan also quipped: ‘Have you got your free bus pass yet?’
Despite the fact that Simon and the acts he’s backed have enjoyed great success over the years, Sir Tom Jones recently criticized him.
The Voice UK coach shared his thoughts on Simon’s coaching methods, stating he thinks the record executive can ‘take it too far’.
‘Well, those kinds of talent shows take it too far. Simon Cowell has done that. You know, by saying, “Why are you on this show? What makes you think you can sing? Who told you you can sing”. I mean… Jesus,’ he told the Daily Mail.
‘The difference between The Voice and other talent shows is, they can sing.’
The star added that the ITV show got rid of those who can’t sing before the first auditions.
