Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has opened up about her relationship with boyfriend Danny Taylor and admits she hopes he’ll propose.
The ballroom dancer, 61, spoke candidly about finding love again following her two previous marriages to Sammy Stopford and Corky Ballas, and said she is hoping her new beau will pop the question someday.
Shirley, who stars on the cover of the January issue of Prima magazine, gave readers an intimate glimpse into her life in a wide-ranging interview with the magazine.
Speaking on boyfriend Danny, 47, the popular presenter said their relationship had ‘changed my life’.
‘He’s very different to anyone I’ve been with before’, she revealed.
‘First of all, he’s 6ft 1in, he’s the tallest man I’ve ever dated, and I love his jet black hair.’
‘He’s also very kind and very caring – he’s always there for me. I hope he’ll propose one day, but he’s never married and I think he’s a bit nervous about it, so we’ll see. Come on, Danny!’
It’s not the first time Shirley has dropped hints that she and Danny could be tying the knot, telling The Sun in September of this year that they ‘do talk about marriage’.
She joked – or partly joked – ‘Come on, Daniel, where’s the ring?’
In the same interview, the loved-up presenter joked that if she married Danny and took on the name ‘Shirley Ballas-Taylor’, she could follow in the footsteps of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor by ‘collecting’ spouses.
‘[Elizabeth Taylor] had eight marriages, didn’t she?’ she teased. ‘No, I’ll just stick with Danny, but I do think it has a nice ring to it.’
The Strictly judge and Danny first met in late 2018, when they both starred in a festive pantomime production of Jack And The Beanstalk in Liverpool.
In December 2020, they took part in their first joint interview and photo shoot, explaining that they share a very ‘50/50’ relationship.
Shirley’s newest interview comes after the 61-year-old faced a health scare when concerned viewers spotted a lump in her arm while watching Strictly Come Dancing.
The ballroom dancer underwent multiple hospital tests and continued to update fans on her health, admitting she was ‘very anxious’ about the results.
Thankfully, just last week Shirley shared the good news that the tests had found no signs of cancer on her kidneys, writing that she can ‘breathe’ after the latest results.
She said however that she will have her breasts checked one more time to be safe.
The January issue of Prima is on sale today.
