Shane Lynch has confirmed that he will no longer perform with Boyzone.
The 46-year-old performer, who rose to popularity in the 1990s with Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, and the late Stephen Gately in the Irish boy band, has announced his retirement from show business.
Shane, a proud father of two kids, revealed that while he hasn’t explicitly told his bandmates that he won’t be performing with them again, he has made it known that he is leaving the entertainment profession.
He also insisted he has no problem with the band ‘cracking on without him’.
‘They might not know exactly… I haven’t gone to them saying, “Boys, I’m not coming back to the band,”’ the former popstar said in a new interview.
He added to the Irish Independent: ‘I’ve just been very open that I’m out of the industry – music, TV and everything.
‘They can absolutely crack on without me. I love the boys, so I’ll watch them. Don’t be gutted.’
Shane abruptly left BBC Two’s Pilgrimage: The Road Through Portugal last month, shocking fans.
The three-part documentary saw a group of celebrities with various views and religions embarking on a modern-day pilgrimage, however Shane abruptly departed the project, notifying his castmates in a voicemail:
‘This journey has been so incredible. I have loved every minute of it and thank you guys for being a part of that.
‘I have come to the end of my journey and I am very complete and satisfied with what I have done.’
Shane’s bandmate Mikey earlier dismissed the possibility of a Boyzone reunion.
Last year, the 50-year-old singer said Ronan, 46, ‘decided’ the band was over.
When asked if he would be ‘the only grandfather on tour’ if the hitmakers performed a 30th-anniversary tour, Ronan stated he didn’t want the band to play again.
One fan tweeted: ‘If Boyzone do reform for a 30th-anniversary tour will you be the only grandfather on tour and congratulations on becoming a grandad [sic],’ to which Mikey replied: ‘Aw thank you so much. Don’t mean to rain on your parade but Ronan decided Boyzone was finished in 2019 so I don’t think there will be any more BZ gigs [sic].’
Following a farewell tour in 2019, Boyzone announced the end of their 25-year career.
Keith, 48, and former Westlife vocalist Brian McFadden, 43, perform as BoyzLife, which is the closest fans can come to a Boyzone reunion these days.
