Selena Gomez is said to think there are some ‘uncanny’ parallels between her life and The Idol.

The Only Murders In The Building actress and pop sensation, who previously dated The Idol’s writer and star The Weeknd for 10 months before splitting in 2017, is believed to be ‘irritated’ by obvious similarities to Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn.

A source said: ‘The similarities between Selena’s life and Jocelyn’s life are just uncanny.

‘Being [that] she actually dated The Weeknd, it is even more creepy for her. Her real-life pain was used for entertainment value and that really irks her out.’

The insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Everyone in her team who has known her for a very long time is dumbfounded by this, but at the end of the day Selena is going to do what she always does – rise above and move on.’

The HBO series focuses on pop diva Jocelyn after she meets nightclub owner and cult leader Tedros, played by The Weekend (actual name Abel Tesfaye), when she meets him.

Fans have noticed some similarities with the characters in The Idol (Picture: HBO)

Tesfaye and Europhia boss Sam Levinson produced the programme, and there appear to be some parallels between Selena and the imaginary heroine.

‘The Idol has so many Selena Gomez parallels. Jocelyn is very Selena coded,’ argued one fan, while another argued: ‘The fact that it’s so undeniable that the idol is written about Selena Gomez is crazy I’m shooook. (sic)’

Most clearly, Selena dated the actor in real life, whilst Lily-Rose’s character fell for Tedros.

There have also been some analogies drawn between Jocelyn and Selena’s individual difficulties and even their personalities, since they both began as child performers before focusing on music.

Other parallels include Selena’s topless photo on the cover of her 2015 album Revival.

‘I am not going to let them get to me,’ she fired back in a past radio interview, while the character of Jocelyn pleaded her case to create a similar cover, insisting: ‘It’s my body.’

Another coincidence was that both Selena and Jocelyn had to cancel several concerts due to health issues, with another parallel occurring after they were both released from treatment.

Selena was told to keep her hospital bracelet on throughout the Bad Liar video production, while Jocelyn was told to do the same for a photoshoot.

Neither Selena nor The Weeknd have addressed the striking resemblances.
