Ryan Reynolds quipped that the riotous Wrexham promotion parade in which he and fellow club owner Rob McElhenney took part on Tuesday was in reality put on for football legend David Beckham.
On the same day that the former England captain turned 48, Hollywood actor Ryan, 46, took the time to send him a video greeting from the deck of an open-top bus as it travelled through the Welsh town.
Wrexham AFC returned to League Two after a 15-year hiatus with a 3-1 victory against Boreham Wood on April 22, with the ladies’ team also advancing.
As the bus passed through the city, fans of all ages lined the streets, chanting and waving flags and scarves.
Throughout his special day, David received numerous messages from family and friends wishing him well.
Gordon Ramsay, Paul Scholes, Eva Longoria, and, of course, his adoring wife, Spice Girl-turned-fashion-designer Victoria, were among them.
There was also a wild Ryan video among them.
The Deadpool star shot the video while on the women’s team bus, with his players serving as a smiling background behind him.
‘David, I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday,’ he began, shouting over the event’s lively music.
‘We threw this huge parade for you, we love you so much!’ he added as the footballers waved behind him, lifting their trophy, and started shouting out birthday greetings themselves.
He panned the camera around to show all the Wrexham fans lined the streets.
‘Everybody came!’ he announced, ending the short clip by making a shocked face.
On Tuesday, David posted the video to his Instagram Stories, tagging both football teams’ official accounts as well as Ryan’s, and adding a ‘lol’ sticker with a laugh-crying emoji to express his gratitude.
Victoria, David’s wife, had previously filled her Instagram with birthday wishes for him, including a very sexy photo of him in nothing but his wet white Calvin Klein underwear and a beanie as he took a dip in an outdoor pool.
She also updated them on their salsa lessons while they performed a routine.
Meanwhile, in response to Wrexham’s victory at the end of April, co-owner Rob – who acquired the team with Ryan in 2020 – described it as the ‘honour of my life’ to be welcomed into the community and celebrate victory with the team.
