Kate and Rio Ferdinand have confirmed the arrival of a baby boy with a first family photo ahead of Christmas – and announcing his name.
New mum Kate shared a photo of a beaming Rio sitting in front of the Christmas tree with his children Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, Tia, nine, facing away from the camera.
But it’s clear that in Tate’s arms is his new baby brother.
‘My whole heart,’ Kate wrote. ‘Cree Ferdinand … our angel boy we all love you so much.’
Cree is Kate and Rio’s first child together, with Kate a stepmother to Rio’s three kids, which he had with his late wife, Rebecca Ellison.
They welcomed baby Cree last week, but have not made any official announcements until now.
In November 2018, Rio proposed to Kate on a rooftop in Abu Dhabi with his children present, and they got married in September 2019.
In February this year, just four months before announcing her pregnancy, Kate admitted she was nervous about parenting a newborn,
Speaking on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, she said: ‘I’m not going to be able to cope! I said to Rio, “Say if we have a baby, once they get to five I’m going to be great. I know what I’m doing, guys, it’s fine. But that baby stage, I don’t know.”
‘I said, “Rio, I’ve never changed a nappy”. He was like, “What?” But I haven’t had children and I don’t have brothers and sisters. I haven’t got nieces and nephews.
‘He was like, “Wow”. I said, “Well you can change them, because you’ve had three!” He said, “I don’t think so!”
‘It’s going to be a big adjustment, because I feel like I know the older stage of being a mum but not to a newborn.’
