Reese Witherspoon has talked about her breakup with Jim Toth and called it a “weak time.”
After almost 12 years of marriage, the 47-year-old star of “Legally Blonde” and the 52-year-old talent director from Hollywood said in March that they were getting a divorce.
In an Instagram post, they revealed the news and promised to stay close for the sake of their son, Tennessee.
In a new interview, the mom of three talked about how she handled their break-up differently from how she handled her break-up with her first husband, Ryan Phillippe, with whom she has children Ava and Deacon.
‘It’s interesting what happened to me,’ she said of issuing the statement. ‘When I was divorced before, the tabloid media got to tell people how I was feeling or how I was processing, and it felt very out of control.
‘To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening.
‘Then, of course, there’s speculation, but I can’t control that. All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable.
‘It’s a vulnerable time for me.’
‘I think about how many other people are going through this experience,’ she added to Harper’s Bazaar. ‘I don’t feel isolated at all. I feel very connected.’
The first time the two were mentioned together was in February 2010, and they revealed their engagement at the end of the same year.
After a quick courtship, they got married on March 26, 2011, at the bride’s California country home.
In September 2012, Reese gave birth to their first child, Tennessee.
The Morning Show star announced that she and Jim were no longer together in an Instagram post earlier this year, just days before their 12th wedding anniversary.
‘We have some personal news to share… It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce,’ she said at the time.

‘We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together.
‘Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter.
‘These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.’
