Rapper MF DOOM dies aged 49

Rapper MF DOOM has died aged 49, his family have confirmed.

The Rhymes Like Doom artist’s wife Jasmine announced the news in a statement on Thursday, stating he died on October 31. She called him ‘the greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for.’

It’s not yet clear how the artist, real name Daniel Dumile, died.

‘Begin all things by giving thanks to THE ALL!,’ the statement read.

‘To Dumile, The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family.

‘Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off.

‘Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you.’

It continued: ‘Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet. All my love, Jasmine.’

Dumile began his career in the music industry in 1988 in the group KMD in 1988 with his younger brother DJ Subroc and another MC called Rodan.

In 1993, his brother was struck and killed by a car, with the group dropped by their record label that same week.

In 1997, Dumile began freestyling incognito at open-mics, beginning his new identity MF DOOM.

He would perform wearing a mark which resembled Marvel’s Doctor Doom.

Tributes have flooded in since news of the rapper’s death, with Tyler The Creator writing: ‘safe travels villain’.

Q-Tip wrote: ‘RIP to another Giant your favourite MC’s MC .. MF DOOM!! crushing news…’
