Radio DJ Chris Evans cancer-free weeks after revealing diagnosis

Chris Evans has disclosed that he has been given the all-clear after being diagnosed with skin cancer a few weeks ago.

The 57-year-old radio personality announced the news to his Virgin Radio listeners on Monday, August 21, and stated that the disease was discovered in its early stages.

Chris also expressed optimism for a full recovery, citing skin cancer as one of the more curable types of the condition.

Updating his listeners during Wednesday’s [September 20] show, he began: ‘So, you know, sometimes when you can’t sleep, there are different reasons for it, if you’re worried about something, you could have eaten too late.

‘You could be comatose, because you’ve drunk too much, and you wake up and you can’t get back to sleep and your heart’s racing. Loads of different reasons.’

He added: ‘I didn’t sleep, hardly at all last night… two or three hours. A good night, I’ll get six, four or five and because I wake up every 90 minutes for my circadian rhythm, and I surrender to that now, actually I look forward to going back to sleep three times a night, because that’s where I live.

It is excellent news. There is no residual disease.’ (Picture: ITV)

‘But I never thought for a second you could lose a night’s sleep because of an email like this.’

He then displayed the email to his co-hosts, Vassos Alexander and Rachel Horne, who enthusiastically delivered the good news by reading out the email from the consultant plastic surgeon who removed the malignant tumour from Evans’ leg.

It read: ‘I forwarded the pathology report. It is excellent news. There is no residual disease. You have the all-clear.’

The broadcaster previously had a skin cancer scare in 2019 when he discovered suspicious markings on his body.

He added that the scorching summer of that year, as well as the ‘high amounts of UV,’ had caused him anxiety.

Following a prostate cancer scare in 2015, the actor was also given the all-clear.

Chris’s health was last in the news in 2021, when he was forced to skip his Virgin Radio programme for two weeks due to surgery to cure excruciating kidney stones.
