On Friday, Bristol Crown Court condemned Timothy Schofield to 12 years in jail.
Schofield, 54, was found guilty of 11 sexual crimes involving a minor, including two counts of sexual activity with a child, during a trial at Exeter Crown Court earlier this month.
Mrs Justice Cutts told him during sentence on Friday that he had ‘exploited [the victim’s] innocence at this point of his life for your own sexual enjoyment.
‘It was wrong on every level for you to behave as you did.
‘He felt forced to do what you wanted, trapped and unable to escape. He felt he couldn’t tell anyone and did not do so for many years. You took away his ability to be the teenager he should have been – carefree, relaxed, happy. It is clear to me that you became utterly obsessed with him.’
Mrs Cutts went on to thank the kid for reporting the assault.
Schofield lost his job as a police IT worker late last month.
He worked in information technology for Avon and Somerset Police and had already been suspended from his job at the police headquarters in Portishead after being detained and charged.
Following his convictions, assistant chief constable Will White presided over a misconduct hearing, which resulted in his dismissal without notice.
Schofield was accused earlier this month with 11 sexual crimes involving a child between October 2016 and October 2019 – including two counts of sexual activity with a juvenile.
Schofield testified before the jury that he had watched pornography with the youngster, who he said was over the age of 16 at the time, and that they had masturbated while sitting apart, but he denied performing sexual acts on the adolescent.
In September 2021, he allegedly alerted his TV star brother about some of the alleged wrongdoing.
Following the verdict, Phillip issued a statement condemning the actions of his brother in which he said: ‘As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother.’
After more than five and a half hours of deliberation, the jury at Exeter Crown Court convicted him guilty on all charges by a vote of 10-2.
He contested the allegations, but was found guilty on three counts of inducing a child to see sexual conduct, three counts of participating in sexual activity in the presence of a child, three counts of forcing a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of sexual activity with a child.
