Leanne Hainsby, a British teacher for the Peloton cycling team, has disclosed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 35.
On Friday, the person who works in the fitness industry published a long post on Instagram in which she discussed the specifics of her diagnosis.
‘Two days before my best friend’s funeral, I found a lump in my breast,’ she wrote.
‘That really is a sentence I NEVER imagined writing.
Leanne went to a second doctor after the first one she saw ignored her fears about possible breast cancer. In August of the previous year, she was given a diagnosis of breast cancer.
‘I trusted my gut and got a second opinion. That saved my life. Check, and check again,’ she added.
The post was also accompanied by a series of photos of her in hospital undergoing treatment.
Before undergoing chemotherapy Leanne and her fiancé, fellow Peloton instructor Benjamin Alldis, did a round of IVF.
‘We weren’t mentally prepared, but we got it done and we’re so grateful,’ she shared.
Speaking about deciding to continue working, Leanne said it mattered to her ‘hugely’ to not give it up.
‘My classes have given me a focus, and some sparkle in an otherwise incredibly tough time, so thank you to the members who had no idea the amount of joy they were bringing to me every day,’ she said.
She also revealed that after teaching her lessons on Wednesday mornings during her chemotherapy treatment, she would then go meet her mother and “go to the treatment room for my weekly dosage.” She has now completed a total of 12 weeks.
She added: ‘Chemo is no joke. Cold caps are no joke.’
She wrote further about the loss she was already fighting at the time and stated that she found out she was unwell just two days before Dani Hampson’s burial. The writing was about the pain she was already fighting at the time.
The X Factor star Tom Mann, who was only 34 years old when he went unexpectedly, was engaged to Hampson at the time of his death.
‘To be in the early stages of grief after losing Danielle and then faced with something like this, has been unimaginably tough, and that still feels like an understatement,’ Leanne wrote.
Leanne went on to say that she will continue to undergo therapy for a “very long period,” but that six months after receiving her diagnosis, she considers herself “fortunate” and is certain that she “will be OK.”
‘I have had some good news in the last week, and it is so welcomed after a relentlessly cruel 2022.’
At the end of the article, Leanne offered advice to other women, advising them to routinely examine their breasts, to listen to their instincts, and to get a second opinion if they have any doubts.
