Paul O’Grady has teamed up with Boom Radio to broadcast an Easter Sunday show.
The veteran host, 67, left Radio 2 in August, stating that he was ‘unhappy’ at the time.
Paul initially collaborated with Boom last year when he hosted a holiday special, and he has suggested that he may become a regular on the station.
‘It’s lovely to be working with the guys at Boom again,’ the TV personality said of the new role. It’s already become my new radio home.’
‘My producer Malcolm and I are looking forward to our special TeamPOG programme on Easter Sunday – who knows, this may be the start of a regular engagement,’ he told MailOnline, which called Boom Radio a ‘rival’ station to the BBC.
‘They’re going for a lot younger audience, which doesn’t make sense,’ Paul said last month in an interview with Metro.co.uk on his decision to leave Radio 2.
Asked if he was disappointed about potentially having to share a slot with Rob Beckett, Paul candidly replied: ‘I was, because I’m a great believer in continuity. If you go off for 13 weeks and somebody else comes on, the listeners don’t know when you’re back on. Radio 2 has changed, it’s not what it was.’
He added: ‘They’re trying to aim for a much younger audience, which doesn’t make sense because you’ve got Radio 1. Radio 2 was always for an older audience.’
Speaking about his decision to leave Radio 2 in August, Paul said on social media: ‘The reason I’m leaving, because everybody’s asked me this, it’s because I wasn’t really happy with the 13 weeks on/13 weeks off business.
‘So, I did the honourable thing and I honoured my contract, gave my notice and now I’m off.’
The presenter concluded: ‘Anyway, thanks very much and good luck to everyone on Radio 2 and long may you continue!’
