Noel Gallagher has been prohibited from driving for six months due to a series of unpaid speeding fines, despite the fact that he does not have a driving licence.
The 56-year-old chart-topping singer and artist, who notoriously never learnt to drive, was also fined almost Ā£2,000.
On Wednesday, Lavender Hill magistrates court heard the matter, which involved unpaid speeding fines from November 2022 and February of this year.
Gallagher, who drives a Ā£120,000 Range Rover, was previously in problems with the law in June for failing to respond to Metropolitan Police letters involving a speeding penalty.
Despite his driver admitting to the communication mix-up and the speeding – the car was captured by a speed camera travelling at 41mph on a 30mph section of the A40 near Edgware Road station – Gallagher was charged and pled guilty as the registered owner of the vehicle.
He earned six points on his licence, a Ā£742 fine, and Ā£396 in expenses and court fees.
The High Flying Birds frontman’s letter, in which he admitted responsibility for other ignored letters over speeding penalties, was read in court yesterday.
According to the Evening Standard, the actor wrote, “I did not personally receive the notice or the reminder, and neither were brought to my attention by my staff.”
‘I have a team of employees who help me manage my personal and commercial affairs, including communications delivered to my home address.’
He did, however, admit that it was his “responsibility as a registered keeper of a motor vehicle to ensure that suitable and effective arrangements are in place to safeguard against important correspondence not being dealt with as required.”
Gallagher, who just disclosed the basis for his latest four-letter word outburst on Adele, also said that ‘required changes had been taken’ following the prior court case.
‘Once my management team informed me of the arrival of the court papers pertaining to this incident, the original notice was filled, identifying the driver, and returned,’ he continued.
Alan Neeson, the star’s driver, had filed a written statement in the first prosecution at the end of May in which he stated that he was’solely responsible for correspondence and other things surrounding cars’ and verified that his employer did not have a licence.
Gallagher has now received 12 further penalty points and an immediate six-month driving suspension, bringing his total to 18 points on his licence (if he had one).
This happened after Gallagher’s Range Rover was detected speeding twice, once at 35mph on November 30 and again at 41mph on January 2.
He will be unable to drive himself for the next six months due to the prohibition, but he will be permitted to continue being driven.
He was also sentenced to pay Ā£1,986 in penalties, Ā£110 in prosecution costs, and a Ā£536 court charge.
After confirming in his letter that he was prepared to pay any financial penalties, the singer was given a week to settle the debt.
Gallagher pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to provide police with information identifying the driver of his car.
