As he celebrates 56 on Monday, Noel Gallagher disclosed that his mother is essentially the ‘only one’ who acknowledges his birthday.

The Oasis singer, who is notoriously estranged from his sibling and ex-bandmate Liam Gallagher, is not anticipating any fanfare on his big day.

This follows the January announcement that the Wonderwall hitmaker and his wife Sara MacDonald, 51, were divorcing after 22 years of marriage.

Tonight on The One Show, Alex Jones asked Noel if his mother would send him a birthday card on Monday.

‘I think my mum might be the only one who bothers to acknowledge it,’ said the forever-blunt indie rocker.

‘The thing is,’ he continued, ‘I always feel you should acknowledge your mum on your birthday seeing as she was the one that was doing all the hard work.’

‘Yes, I like you even more,’ replied Alex, and we must say he’s got a point there.

Fans adored having Noel on the settee promoting his new album, Council Skies, despite the fact that many admitted to being distracted by his discomfort throughout.

Many said Noel appeared like he’d been ‘taken hostage’ in a hilarious series of likeminded tweets.

‘Have they taken Noel Gallagher hostage? Blink twice if you need help bruv,’ wrote one concerned fan.

Another said: ‘Is that bloke in a hostage video?’

‘All I can think about while all this extra stuff is on is Noel sitting miserable as sin on the sofa, wishing he wasn’t there,’ chimed in another viewer.

Joking about Noel’s poker face, another said: ‘I bet the green room was fun this evening.’

Noel recently broke his silence on the divorce, attributing it to a’midlife crisis’ and having reached a ‘crossroads’ prior to this appearance.

‘When you get to your mid-50s, you do come to some kind of crossroads in your life,’ he explained in quotes obtained by The Sun.

‘It’s not uncommon for people who have been in long-term relationships to go their separate ways in their fifties.

‘I know a lot of people in the same boat as me and Sara.

‘Particularly after the pandemic.

‘The midlife crisis thing is true for men and women,’ he said.

The former couple shares two children, Donovan, 15, and Sonny, 12, with ex-wife Meg Mathews, with whom Noel also shares daughter Anais, 22.

Meanwhile, Noel recently dispelled rumours that he and Liam may reunite as Oasis ahead of the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Definitely, Maybe, leaving disappointed admirers.

The One Show is on BBC One every weekday at 7pm.
