After last year’s Wimbledon final, tennis player Nick Kyrgios gained a bit of a rebellious reputation, but we’re not sure if his new tattoo helps or hurts that image.

Nick was conspicuously absent from Wimbledon this year after facing Novak Djokovic in last year’s men’s singles final, in which he breached the attire code.

He had to withdraw from the tennis tournament this year after tearing a ligament in his wrist.

Off the court, the 28-year-old has stunned admirers by unveiling a massive piece of artwork that covers his entire back.

His new tattoo features some of the most popular characters from the popular Japanese anime and video game franchise, Pokemon.

The Australian athlete revealed to supporters that five painters worked on the project at the same time and laid down the line work in one hour.

The tat shows nine Pokemon from generation one, which included 150 animals in the original Red and Green games.

Nick picked powerful and well-known Pokemon such as Dragonite, Lapras, Alakazam, Gengar, Snorlax, and Gyarados.

After an hour, the painters were able to begin work on shading, although it is unclear if the tennis star intends for this to be a full-color or black-and-white artwork.

The Lapras on the upper right appears to have some colour on its head, but it appears purple rather than blue, implying Nick prefers rare shiny versions of his selected Pokemon.

Shinies are exceedingly rare in all versions of the games, and may be identified by their different colour bodies.

To the right of the massive ink was the famous Mewtwo, who was most recently featured in the Ryan Reynolds flick Detective Pikachu.

At the start of each game, players select one of three’starter’ Pokemon, which are invariably of the water, fire, or grass kind.

Nick appears to have been unable to choose just one, as his inking depicts fan favourite Charizard, final evolution of fire type Charmander, near his left shoulder.

Blastoise, the ultimate evolution of water starter Squirtle, took the stage, its nameake blasters ready for war.

Sorry to the grass starting Bulbasaur, but it appears that the tennis star did not select you.
