Neil Diamond decided to spread a little love in 2020 by bringing people together with his legendary hit Sweet Caroline and the finished video is guaranteed to make you cry.
The singer, 79, challenged his fans to get involved in a global singalong of Sweet Caroline and, well, they did just that with people all over sending in videos of them giving it their all as they belted out the 1969 hit.
It’s three whole minutes of pure joy, with friends, families and co-workers coming together and the sheer happiness on their faces instantly making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
There’s a cute elderly couple dancing together as they sing along, crowds of people singing in stadiums (remember those?) and even Santa Claus makes an appearance.
Try not to scream out ‘so good, so good, so good,’ we dare you.
Wanting to make an extremely tough year a little bit more bearable by spreading a smile and a feeling of ‘togetherness’ across the globe, musician Neil set up a website where anyone, anywhere, could send in videos of them singing along to his classic track.
Videos were compiled over a two-week period, with the final compilation being unveiled on YouTube on Monday.
It coincides with the release of Neil’s new studio album with The London Symphony Orchestra titled Classic Diamonds, that found itself storming the charts and landing in the top five on its first week of release.
At the time of writing, Neil’s album is at number two in the UK album charts, sitting just behind Taylor Swift’s surprise new release Evermore.
Michael Ball and Alfie Boe’s album Together at Christmas sits at number three, while Michael Buble’s Christmas is back in the charts at number four.
It’s not the first time Neil’s hit song Sweet Caroline has enjoyed something of a comeback this year, as the man himself gave the track a coronavirus spin when the pandemic first hit.
Encouraging people to stick to social distancing and stressing the importance of hand-washing amid Covid-19, Neil changed the iconic lyrics to Sweet Caroline to: ‘Hands, washing hands / Reaching out, don’t touch me / I won’t touch you.’
The music icon told fans: ‘I know we’re going through a rough time right now, but I love ya, and I think maybe if we sing together, we’ll feel just a little bit better.’
Sweet Caroline was first released in the late ’60s and it debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
