Millie Bobby Brown, who rose to popularity at the age of 11, is no stranger to the negative aspects of social media, but she has devised a strategy to protect herself.
Since announcing their engagement in May, the 19-year-old has been posting a lot of romantic pictures with her husband-to-be Jake Bongiovi, 21.
Millie and the son of musician Jon Bon Jovi originally ignited dating allegations in 2021, before the Stranger Things star was photographed wearing a massive engagement ring early this year.
They’ve been keeping things quiet, tease fans with wedding planning clues, and don’t generally discuss their life on social media.
Millie often posts on Instagram to promote her cosmetics company, but it turns out she dislikes the platform.
In a new interview, she admitted that, despite being of prime age for social media, she mainly checks it to see how her Florence by Mills Beauty products are doing.
‘TikTok, Facebook, Instagram — I love seeing the way people use Florence. It’s really cool. I don’t have those social medias actually on my phone, I get to have people send them to me,’ she told Women’s Wear Daily.
The Enola Holmes star’s 63.5 million fans may expect videos of rescue canines and promotion of her newest releases, including a book due out later this year.
While she does share parts of her personal life, she only does so around one-third of the time, with the most recent being a sweet image of herself and Jake uploaded last week.
She continued: ‘I personally feel it wasn’t adding anything to my life. And I felt positive when I didn’t have it on my phone. I just felt like I could live my life with more confidence and freedom, mental freedom [without social media].
‘I just feel better for it. But that doesn’t mean that the good social media I don’t get to see: I just have a wonderful team that kind of censors it all, so that I can protect myself.’
Her privacy is extremely crucial to the young actress, especially after going through adolescent growing pains in public.
This includes her and Jake’s long-awaited wedding, as she stated that they will be “closing the curtains” on that occasion.
‘There are only so many moments in life that you get only once. And to have everyone’s opinions and eyes looking at that just feels unnatural to me,’ explained Millie.
