Mark Wright’s grandfather, Eddie Wright, has passed away at the age of 91, as confirmed by the family.
The statement shared by the Wright family announced that the former champion boxer and paramedic died on January 6, 2025.
‘Mark’s grandad passed away last night. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones,’ read a statement to MailOnline.
Eddie Wright became known to the British public through frequent television appearances alongside his grandson.
In 2019, he was featured with Mark on the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?
Mark previously expressed admiration for his grandfather, explaining on This Morning that participating in the show was his way of giving back: ‘He’s done so much for our family, our granddad, all our lives.
‘He is our king and the best granddad you could ever have. It’s hard to repay him for how much he’s done.
‘This was that moment I could say, before it’s too late, I’ve been able to give this back.’
In June 2024, Mark’s father (also named Mark) disclosed that his father had suffered a fall and was hospitalized.
On Father’s Day, he posted a heartfelt message saying: ‘Happy Fathers Day to the best, unfortunately in hospital at the moment after a fall a couple of days ago but dad I’m on my way up to see you now keep strong xxx’
Supporters quickly responded with well-wishes for a swift recovery.
This sad news comes shortly after the new year began and just days following Mark’s announcement that he and his wife Michelle Keegan are expecting their first child together.
The couple, who have been married for ten years, have often faced public curiosity about starting a family.
On December 29, they announced the pregnancy with a touching beach photo taken during sunset. Michelle, dressed in a white two-piece outfit, was seen cradling her baby bump, while Mark faced her, walking towards her on the sand with his back to the camera.
‘2025 is going to be a special one for us… ,’ they captioned the post.
