Mark Wright has revealed he got lots of positive messages from others who’d been encouraged to get checked out after speaking out about a lump he’d discovered.
The former Towie star, 34, had recently taken to Instagram to reveal he’d had a 12cm tumour removed from his armpit, which was thankfully later found to be benign and not cancerous.
He revealed that speaking out about the experience led to many people reaching out to him to say that he’d encouraged them to go and see their own doctors about lumps they’d been putting off getting checked.
Mark told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think it’s imperative to talk about it. I’ve had so many messages – I didn’t really think about it, but I was just like, “You know what, if one person who sees this post has got a lump they’re a little bit concerned about and had otherwise just left it, it might just save their life,” so I did it.
‘I’ve had so many messages, even an actor friend messaged me to say that he had a lump that was quite sore and that I reminded him to go and get checked.
‘He is all alright and everything, but it just reminds people to get checked just to be sure.’
Since having his operation, Mark has been back in the gym working on his fitness, something he has always been extremely dedicated to.
He explained: ‘I had my first big gym session back the other day, and it was great to be able to get back to it and feel back to myself.’
Mark revealed that he gets in the mood to go by telling himself how good he’s going to feel after the workout, as often motivating yourself to get there can be the hardest part.
The TV and radio presenter has also recently returned from an idyllic holiday to Mexico with his wife Michelle Keegan, 34, and revealed the holiday was extra special after the coronavirus pandemic meant trips were largely on hold.
‘It was amazing, it was really beautiful trip. It was great to get away after the last period we’ve had,’ he revealed.
Mark has partnered with TUI, who discovered that holidays are the things Brits have been missing the most and can never have enough of.
He added: ‘It’s what we all work hard for and look forward to every year. There’s nothing better than getting away and spending quality time with your loved ones and doing things you all love in a beautiful place.
‘The last year or so I feel like everyone got into habits of just staying at home, we were even a bit like: “Can we really be bothered to go away to Mexico?”
‘But as soon as you get there, you feel like this is what it’s all about and this is what we would be missing, and I think it’s just so important to get that break.’
Mark and Michelle had given us all serious holiday envy with their sun-kissed snaps and he admitted: ‘It was amazing. It was absolutely amazing. One of the best holidays ever, it was gorgeous.’
