Love Island’s Joanna Chimonides opens up on ‘slim-shaming’: ‘I get comments like “have you eaten today?”

Joanna Chimonides has opened up about the ‘slim-shaming’ she has experienced in the past after being naturally thin throughout her life.

The former Love Island star, 25, revealed she had been targeted with nasty comments about her weight and people saying she looked ‘unwell’.

Joanna, who was on series five of the ITV show along with Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, explained to OK: ‘I have always had this thing about me being really, really slim and too slim.

‘People as I have grown up, and still to this day, I get comments like, “Have you eaten today?” or “Are you not hungry?” and “Girl, what have you been eating? Have you not eaten anything?”’

The reality star, who has since released a line of activewear with South Beach x ASOS, added: ‘I have even got people saying, “Are you unwell?” I am naturally thin genetically. My mum is slim as well.’

She admitted that the comments affected her self-confidence as she worried she didn’t look ‘womanly enough’ or fill out her clothes.

Joanna has since been working with a personal trainer in her quest to feel ‘curvier and bulkier’ and to speak out about the body shaming thin people can also get,

She revealed that the knock to her confidence got so severe that she even stopped a lingerie photoshoot mid-way through as she felt like she was ‘too skinny’.

Joanna added: ‘Sometimes it is not even the comments that people give you it is how you view yourself. I was looking at myself and was like: “Wow I am too slim.”’

She has since been working hard in the gym to achieve a curvier figure by building up muscle and has seen increases in the weights she is able to use.
