Demi Jones, the former Love Island star, has been given the all-clear after undergoing thyroid cancer therapy.
In May 2021, the 24-year-old media star stated that she had been diagnosed with the cancer and had undergone two operations to remove a mass in her neck.
Demi, who shared her cancer battle to promote awareness, has learnt that she is cancer-free and will no longer require monthly check-ups.
In a new interview, Demi shared: ‘I went to hospital about three weeks ago and they gave me the all clear!
‘For the last three years I’ve been going to hospital every month, but they said I don’t need to go anymore and they’ll send me my medication.’
Speaking to the Mail Online, Demi added: ‘I feel very liberated this year and can get back to being me!’
Demi revealed that she had immersed herself in the realm of beauty in order to feel better about herself after gaining weight throughout her cancer treatment.
Speaking to the publication, she continued: ‘I think being an islander there’s a lot of pressure to look a certain way, especially coming off the show I was always a curvy girl and there’s always that pressure to look how you do on Instagram.
‘Especially when I went through my thyroid cancer. I got through it and I’m on the other side, I felt so ready to take on the world again but I had put on about two stone so my clothes weren’t fitting.
‘That’s why I turned to my beauty, it obviously comes from within but it made me feel good about myself.’
Demi previously disclosed that she was cancer-free in December 2021 and published a photo of herself standing outside the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth to commemorate the event.
At the time, she captioned the announcement: ‘I’M CANCER FREE!!!! I did it! 🥺🎉 I got my full body scan results back and there’s not a single cancer cell left in my body 🙌 it’s been such a difficult year mentally and physically for me with my surgeries and treatment but I’m beyond grateful for everyone’s kindness and support over this past year 🙏.’
She added: ‘I will continue to be an advocate for cancer awareness and all my love and strength goes out to those who continue to fight this awful disease, here’s to a healthy and happy 2022.’
Demi rose to prominence on Love Island in 2020, where she joined the villa on day 16 and advanced to the final.
She finally finished third on the ITV2 dating programme, partnering Luke Mabbott, with whom she had paired on the show. They have since broken up.
