Louise Redknapp has opened up about her ex-husband Jamie Redknapp getting married again and having more children, and the impact it had on their teenage sons.
The former Eternal singer split from the former Liverpool footballer in 2017 after 19 years of marriage and two children, sons Charley, 18, and Beau, 13.
Following the divorce, Jamie, 49, has since remarried to model Frida Andersson in 2020 and the two went on to welcome a baby boy Raphael in November 2021.
While Charley and Beau were no doubt thrilled to welcome a little baby brother, the changes in their father’s life and the divorce naturally made Louise, 47, want to ensure they had a source of stability as young teens.
‘I’ve felt this as a mum and, to say this in the most sort of respectful way, my boys’ lives changed dramatically and then it changed again when obviously Jamie got married and had a family,’ Louise said.
She added to Hello! Magazine: ‘Their life changed and I felt like I needed to be their one staple. That’s just something I think a lot of mums would feel.’
It’s the first time Louise has properly spoken about her ex-husband’s new family, but she was previously forced to deny reports that she was in ‘despair’ over Jamie moving on.
Hitting back at the false claims in an Instagram post last year, the former Strictly Come Dancing star explained: ‘I try not to read or respond to these things but sometimes they are unavoidable. I’d really love to clarify that “Louise” is not in despair or anything like it!!
‘I have my two gorgeous boys that I adore more than anything in the world, the best family around me and I’m having the time of my life with my career and with the most wonderful friends that a girl could hope for.
‘These stories are there to sell magazines but I’d like to make it clear that I’m in the most positive of headspaces and loving my life.’
At the moment, Louise is having to adjust to a new change herself, with eldest son Charley recently turning 18 and preparing to move to America to study at university.
