Kerry Katona’s son Max will be working on construction sites and being homeschooled after his mother took him out of school due to concerns about his self-esteem.
Along with her comments on the future of This Morning, the 42-year-old has stated that her family has been through “hell” while watching Max struggle to manage with his “severe ADHD.”
Instead of regular schooling, the 15-year-old will be educated at home while concurrently learning the craft on a construction site with Kerry’s fiancé Ryan Mahoney.
In her Now! Magazine column, the singer and TV personality wrote: ‘I had a meeting at my son Max’s school last week and we’ve decided to pull him out after talking to a psychiatrist and his teachers.
‘He’s got severe ADHD and he finds that environment really hard to cope with.’
She added: ‘It’s been a tough road for him and we’ve been through hell, but we’re all in agreement that it’s the best way forward.’
Max has ‘found a trade that he likes’ and will be taking home £50 per day for his efforts as a builder alongside a continued education through ‘some home schooling’.
ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, can cause difficulties with concentration, memory recall, and overall restlessness, which typically means that they do not succeed in standard school settings.
Kerry shared: ‘This isn’t a decision I’ve taken lightly. It’s been going on for years and he was getting sent home from school as much as he was going in.
‘Things go on one ear and out the other and then he gets really frustrated with himself and it affects his self-esteem.’
One method of ADHD care is to take medication to reduce symptoms, which the former Atomic Kitten is exploring for Max despite his doubts.
‘At first, I said no because of the way I was treated when I was on medication, but it’s got to the point now where it’s the next step,’ she explained.
It’s all been really heartbreaking and really tough.’
Kerry recently spoke up about her own mental health, blaming ITV for a “toxic” atmosphere that left her without help when she was at her lowest.
She said: ‘The culture at ITV, and the toxicity, and the aftercare is so lack of that I was left suicidal.
‘No one reached out to me whatsoever it was so disgusting.’
In the aftermath of the Philip Schofield affair, several celebrities, like Eamonn Holmes and Dr Ranj Singh, made similar remarks against the broadcaster.
